Organize Your Day!
10 Daily Habits for Christian Solopreneurs (Part 2)
Take 20 minutes at the end of your business day to organize yourself and prepare for the next day. Your workday cannot consistently end at midnight. Set a time to close down shop and end the workday. It’s important to get rest. It’s been proven that people who don’t get enough sleep at night are in danger of putting their health at risk. Power-down all your devices at least 45 minutes before going to bed. Clear your mind and avoid the urge to review that to do list, as if you were counting sheep. Sleep Mindfulness is an important way to keep your biorhythmic energy at its best. Here’s a FREE quick planner page that may help you create better sleeping habits.
- Take stretch breaks, at least once per hour. Get up from your chair and move around. More than a dozen studies conducted over the past decade would suggest that too much sitting may lead to more disability as we age. One study mentioned in a health and wellness article written in the Globe Staff, suggest our risk of diabetes and heart disease increases the more we sit without movement or exercise. For example, Harvard researcher’s sight studies that involved 92,000 women that suggest that the more time participants spent on activities at work that required more sitting, driving or watching TV, the health risks experienced were much greater. Take time-out to stretch and get some fresh air, you’ll find yourself feeling refreshed and ready to refocus your positive energy.
- Goals are great, but they’re not plans. One common denominator amongst successful solopreneurs is they take the time to map out exactly the who, what, when, where and how they’re going to reach their brand’s goals. Which of you desiring to build a tower does not first sit down and count the costs whether he has enough to complete it? (Luke 24:28 ESV)
Its paramount to consider everything from sales and marketing costs to product development and expansion. It’s not enough to simply strategize. Plan the work and work the plan. By creating detailed timelines and action items you will help elevate the stress of trying to recall the important details in the moment. These Brain Dump Planner Pages can help you put pen to paper and practice these time-saving ideas. They include helpful guidelines for clearing your head of all the things that belong in a resource file. - Include quality time with family and friends in your regular schedule. It’s important that you not spend so much time working in your business that you lose sight of what really matters. Many solopreneurs desperately seek a work-life balance that allows for quality time with family. Having the potential to be in control of your own schedule is in part a strong motivating factor that drives solopreneurs to start their own business. Boundries are also important and will help you maintain balance. Be careful not to allow friends and family to impose expectations that may hinder your progress by interrupting your workday. They may see your solopreneuralship as an open schedule to help with their non-critical yet overflowing personal commitments.
- Enable your ‘lane-assist’ mindset by minimizing your distractions. Your strengths are your greatest asset. There are somethings that just come easy for you. When you are in the flow and doing what you do best, time flys and you are enjoying every second of being in the zone. While others may consider it challenging, you thrive in this type of environment. Periodically complete assessment tests and know your spiritual, intellectual, emotional, relational, and critical thinking strengths and weaknesses. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses will help you mitigate threats that hinder your progress. As you learn more about your own giftedness, maximize your strengths and consider leveraging the strengths of others. Recruit, hire, train and develop a team who will support you in your soloprenueral journey.
